Custom Spa Covers

 Providing the proper measurements is critical in receiving a hot tub cover that fits perfectly and provides the highest level of energy efficiency.  All measurements must be in inches.  

**Please measure carefully, you are responsible for the measurements you provide.

1).  Measure in inches from the outside corner of your spa in both directions, you will need the length and width of the spa on all sides for an accurate measurement.  If your spa has a cut corner (meaning that your spa is not the shape of an exact square) or if your spa has a rounded corner, we will need those dimensions from you also.  Please see the diagram above about how to easily measure a rounded corner.

2).  Measure in inches the skirt that hangs down from the bottom of your existing cover.  Skirt length represents the height of the spa’s rim. With a cover sitting flush on top of the spa, measure the distance down to the outer rim of the spa.

3).  Measure the fastener length in inches.

4).  Determine the hinge direction (the hinge direction determines which way your spa cover will fold open, length-wise or width-wise). 

 How to easily measure for a rounded corner:

 To find the radius of any corner, find the two points where the straight edge begins to curve.  The easiest way to measure a radius is with a carpenter square.  To measure radius “A”: extend straight lines indicated in blue by laying straightedges against the sides of the spa. Measure from point “B” to point “C” and that will give you the size of your radius corner.  Please see diagram above or watch video at the bottom of the page.

Measuring Different Shapes

• Square cover. The square hot tub cover is the easiest cover to measure. Just measure your hot tub from lip to lip. The only other dimension you will need is the skirt length.
• Rectangular cover. Measure for a rectangular hot tub cover the same way as for a square cover, but make sure you request the fold direction you require. Most companies will cut the longest of the two sides in half unless you tell them otherwise.
• Square or rectangular cover with rounded corners. Follow the square and rectangle spa cover procedure and add the radius measurement.
• Round cover. The round spa cover is easy to measure as well, since you only need the lip-to-lip measurement. If your old cover is measurable, you can also measure across the seam. The only other measurement needed is the skirt length.
• Octagonal cover (8 equal-length sides). For the octagon spa cover measure from lip to lip add 1" of play. Also, measure one panel of the octagon from point to point. The only other measurement needed is the skirt length.
• Ellipse or Special Shapes Most of these covers will require a template provided by you to complete your cover properly. This would include spas with speaker bumps, waterfalls, or cut outs for rails or controls.
• Be sure to identify strap and handle locations, or any other features of your cover. Identifying strap locations will ensure your straps line up with the receiving end that is screwed to your spa cabinet. Measure the distance from the corner of the cover and mark on the image at the bottom of the form. The same can be done for the handles on the cover if you are concerned about placement. Maintaining the integrity of the cover material is crucial for its insulation and waterproofing properties. Follow these steps to condition, waterproof, and protect your cover from harmful UV Damage:

• Vinyl Conditioner: Use a vinyl conditioner or protectant to keep the cover's material supple and resistant to cracking.
• Waterproofing Treatment: Apply a waterproofing treatment to the cover surface to enhance its ability to repel water and prevent moisture absorption.
• UV Protectant Spray: Apply a UV protectant spray specifically designed for vinyl or leather materials to create a barrier against harmful UV rays.

Regularly inspecting your spa cover allows you to identify any signs of wear or damage early on. Here's what to look out for:

• Tears or Rips: Repair any tears or rips in the cover fabric promptly using a vinyl repair kit.
• Sagging: If you notice the cover sagging in certain areas, it may indicate water absorption. Address this issue by reinforcing or replacing the foam core.
• Mildew Growth: Remove any mildew spots immediately using a mildew remover and ensure thorough drying to prevent recurrence.

During periods of non-use, proper storage of the spa cover is essential to prevent damage and prolong its lifespan. Follow these storage guidelines:

• Dry Completely: Before storing the cover, ensure it is completely dry to prevent mold and mildew growth.
• Cover Storage Bag: Consider using a cover storage bag to protect the cover from dust, dirt, and pests.
• Elevated Storage: Store the cover in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, preferably elevated off the ground to promote airflow.
